The Government of Odisha launched the Odisha Working Journalist Welfare Scheme on 7th July 2023. Through this scheme, all the journalists of the state will be provided newspaper hawker registration, Health insurance coverage, and financial assistance. All the beneficiaries who are interested in getting the benefit of this scheme can apply through online mode. The government has launched a dedicated portal for the application of the scheme on the occasion of launching the portal. The chief minister of Odisha Mr Naveen Patnaik said that journalists should work towards creating awareness in the society and the state government will provide all the possible support to all the journalists.
- This scheme will improve the standard of living of the beneficiaries. Other than that the beneficiary will also become self-dependent. The government is going to provide Rs 4 lakh to be the legal heir of the working journalist in case of his or her death and 2 lakh in case of permanent incapability
