Road accident incidents are increasing day by day as the no of vehicles are increasing on the roads. Across the Maharashtra state, on state highways and rural roads, on average 40000 people get injured and 13000 people die in road accidents every year. Due to not getting timely treatment or lack of finance, many people die. To prevent people lives who get injured in road accidents, Balasaheb Thackeray Accidental Insurance Scheme has been launched by CM Uddhav Thackeray. The scheme has been approved in the cabinet meeting on 16 September 2020.

Implementation of Balasaheb Thackeray Accidental Insurance
The state government of Maharashtra is going to sanction an amount of Rs. 120 crores for the scheme. The amount will be given by the Health Department to the State Health Assurance Society, a government body for the implementation of the scheme. This scheme is for road accident victims only. The scheme will not cover other accidents, such as industrial or railway accidents or mishaps at daily work or at home.
