Karnataka Surya Raitha Scheme
State government has announced this scheme to fulfil the day time energy supply to farmers in the year 2014 for the first time. Karnataka Surya Raitha Scheme has been launched as a pilot project basis in Kanakapura on 19 January 2019. Under this scheme government is going to replace the existing water pumps with solar water pumps. Fund for this scheme is collected in combination from the farmers investment, Central & State govt. subsidy and soft-loans from Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM). The major purpose of the state government is to set up solar water pumps to produce excess energy.

Implementation Of Scheme
During the initial phase of the implementation of scheme, state government is going to replace 310 old water pumps with solar water pumps. Solar water pumps have 1.5 times more pumping capacity then the old water pumps. These new solar pumps will solve the irrigation issues of the farmers. Not only this, these solar pumps will also be going to provide 1/3 of energy produced to the nearest electricity grid.
Benefits Of Surya Raitha Yojana
Set up of solar water pumps is very beneficial for the farmers. First and foremost, benefit of the scheme is that the farmers will get subsidy for installing the solar water pumps. Farmers need not to use IP water pumps further even during the night time. Not only this, farmers will get excess amount of energy supplied to electricity grid once the soft loan amount has been recovered by the authorities. 12 to 14 years will be the payback period. With this farmer can earn Rs. 50000/- per annum apart from self-consumption of energy.
